Silver prize at the 13th International Poster Triennial in Toyama 2021

The given theme of the Triennial was “INVISIBLE”. Acceding to this theme, I made a poster that criticizes the issue of gender discrimination in Japan. My inspiration of this work came from the situation of male-oriented society of my country. The current status of Japanese gender equality is still terrible especially in the politic and economic field. I personally believe that we should stand up and do something for this problem as a woman and a mother of my daughter. Therefore, I decided to record what’s happening in my country, visualize it, appeal to the world, and inspire Japanese society to make some changes through my posters.
This poster has only male illustrations, but ironically the title is “Women in Japan 2021”. If you look at the poster carefully, you can find there is a vague shadow of the symbol of women (symbol of Venus). However, when standing in front of the poster, it’s hard to notice what’s hidden in the enormous number of male illustrations. This poster shows the current situation of women in Japanese society. This is my answer to the theme “INVISIBLE”.
I strongly hope that this work poster will become “Old” in near future due to change of Japanese society in good way.
